Rājarṣi-samāgamaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhirasya Dharma-parīkṣā ca
Meeting the Royal Sage and a Dharmic Audit
उवाच वदतां श्रेष्ठ; को5स्मानभिभविष्यति । सज्जीभवत भद्ठं वः पाण्डवा युद्धदुर्मदा:,इसके सिवा और भी बहुत-से भयानक उत्पात वहाँ प्रकट होने लगे। यह अद्भुत घटना देखकर वक्ताओमें श्रेष्ठ धर्मपुत्र युधिष्ठिरने कहा--“कौन हम लोगोंको पराजित कर सकेगा? रणोन्मत्त पाण्डवो! तुम्हारा भला हो, तुम युद्धके लिये तैयार हो जाओ। मैं जैसे लक्षण देख रहा हूँ, उससे पता लगता है कि हमारे लिये पराक्रम दिखानेका समय अत्यन्त निकट आ गया है।' ऐसा कहकर राजा युधिष्छिरने चारों ओर दृष्टिपात किया
uvāca vadatāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ ko ’smān abhibhaviṣyati | sajjībhavata bhadraṃ vaḥ pāṇḍavā yuddha-durmadāḥ ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: Então Yudhiṣṭhira, o mais eminente entre os oradores, declarou: “Quem poderia sobrepujar-nos? Ó Pāṇḍavas, embriagados pelo ardor da batalha—que o bem vos acompanhe—preparai-vos para a guerra. Pelos sinais que observo, o momento de mostrarmos nosso valor está muito próximo.” Dito isso, o rei Yudhiṣṭhira lançou o olhar em todas as direções.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights responsible leadership under dharma: when signs indicate an imminent crisis, a ruler should not lapse into fear or indecision but prepare his people with clarity, blessing, and resolve—channeling martial energy toward a righteous and timely response.
Amid frightening portents, Yudhiṣṭhira speaks with confidence, asking who could defeat them and urging the Pāṇḍavas to ready themselves for war, interpreting the omens as signaling that the time to demonstrate valor is close.
