एतत् कृतयुगं नाम त्रैगुण्यपरिवर्जितम् त्रेतामपि निबोध त्वं यस्मिन् सत्र प्रवर्तते
etat kṛtayugaṃ nāma traiguṇya-parivarjitam | tretām api nibodha tvaṃ yasmin satra pravartate ||
Bhīma disse: “Isto é o que se chama Kṛta (Satya) Yuga—livre do domínio das três guṇas. Compreende também o Tretā Yuga, no qual os ritos sacrificiais (satra) passam a ser praticados ativamente.”
भीम उवाच
The verse contrasts yuga-dharma: Kṛta Yuga is portrayed as a condition of purity ‘beyond the three guṇas,’ while Tretā is marked by the active establishment of sacrificial practice—suggesting a shift from innate righteousness to righteousness maintained through ritual and regulated action.
Bhīma is explaining the characteristics of the world-ages (yugas) to his listener, first defining Kṛta Yuga as guṇa-free and then directing attention to Tretā Yuga, where sacrificial sessions (satra) become prevalent.
