Bhīmasena–Hanūmān Saṃvāda: The Tail Test and the Divine Path
हनूमानुवाच किमर्थ सरुजस्ते5हं सुखसुप्त: प्रबोधित: । ननु नाम त्वया कार्या दया भूतेषु जानता,हनुमानजी बोले--भाई! मैं तो रोगी हूँ और यहाँ सुखसे सो रहा था। तुमने क्यों मुझे जगा दिया? तुम समझदार हो। तुम्हें सब प्राणियोंपर दया करनी चाहिये
Hanūmān uvāca: kimarthaṁ sarujas te ’haṁ sukha-suptaḥ prabodhitaḥ? nanu nāma tvayā kāryā dayā bhūteṣu jānatā.
Hanūmān disse: “Por que me despertaste, se estou enfermo e dormia confortavelmente? Certamente, tu, que sabes o que é correto, deves mostrar compaixão por todos os seres vivos.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A wise person should practice compassion (dayā) toward all beings; even small acts like disturbing someone unnecessarily are framed as lapses in considerate, dharmic conduct.
Hanuman, who had been resting while unwell, questions why he was awakened and uses the moment to remind the other party that a discerning person should be compassionate to living creatures.
