Drupada’s Counsel on Conciliation and Alliance Mobilization
The verse highlights dharmic statecraft: a king should communicate through a qualified, trustworthy envoy—here a learned purohita—so that the message carries moral authority, restraint, and legitimacy in a tense political situation.
In the Udyoga Parva’s mobilization and negotiations, Drupada advises the Matsya king to send Drupada’s learned royal priest to Dhṛtarāṣṭra as a messenger, delivering a suitable formal communication as alliances and war preparations intensify.
