अध्याय ३९: विदुरेण धृतराष्ट्राय नीत्युपदेशः
Timely Counsel, Association, and Kin-Duty
नित्योदकी नित्ययज्ञोपवीती नित्यस्वाध्यायी पतितान्नवर्जी । सत्यं ब्रुवन् गुरवे कर्म कुर्वन् न ब्राह्मुणश्व्यवते ब्रह्मलोकात्,जो प्रतिदिन जलसे स्नान-संध्या-तर्पण आदि करता है, नित्य यज्ञोपवीत धारण किये रहता है, नित्य स्वाध्याय करता है, पतितोंका अन्न त्याग देता है, सत्य बोलता और गुरुकी सेवा करता है, वह ब्राह्मण कभी ब्रह्मलोकसे भ्रष्ट नहीं होता
nityodakī nityayajñopavītī nityasvādhyāyī patitānnavarjī | satyaṃ bruvan gurave karma kurvan na brāhmaṇaś cyavate brahmalokāt ||
Vidura disse: Um brâmane que diariamente cumpre os ritos da água—banho, culto do crepúsculo e oferendas aos ancestrais—que traz sempre o fio sagrado (yajñopavīta), que persevera no estudo védico diário (svādhyāya), que recusa alimento associado aos caídos (moralmente degradados), que fala a verdade e serve ao seu mestre por meio dos deveres apropriados—tal brâmane jamais decai de Brahma-loka.
विदुर उवाच
Spiritual stability and higher attainment (Brahma-loka) are secured through consistent daily discipline: purity through water-rites, commitment to Vedic study, ethical restraint in accepting food, truthfulness in speech, and humble service to one’s teacher. The verse emphasizes lived conduct as the basis of religious identity and merit.
In the Udyoga Parva, Vidura instructs and admonishes within the tense pre-war context, presenting dharma-based counsel. Here he articulates a standard of Brahminical life—ritual regularity, learning, moral discernment, and guru-service—using it as an ethical benchmark amid political and familial conflict.
