Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Dynastic Counsel on Legitimate Rule
राज्यं कुरूणामनुपूर्व भोज्यं क्रमागतो न: कुलधर्म एष: । त्वं पापबुद्धेडतिनृशंसकर्मन् राज्यं कुरूणामनयाद् विहंसि
rājyaṃ kurūṇām anupūrva-bhojyaṃ kramāgato naḥ kula-dharma eṣaḥ | tvaṃ pāpa-buddher ati-nṛśaṃsa-karman rājyaṃ kurūṇām anayād vihiṃsi ||
Vidura declara que, entre os Kurus, o reino deve ser usufruído e governado segundo a sucessão devida—esta é a lei ancestral da família e o costume estabelecido: a autoridade passa, passo a passo, ao mais velho legítimo, não é tomada fora de sua vez. Em seguida, repreende Duryodhana como alguém de intenção pecaminosa e de atos brutalmente cruéis, dizendo que, por sua injustiça, ele está levando à ruína o próprio reino dos Kurus.
