Śvetadvīpa-varṇana and Śāstra-pravartana (Śānti Parva 322)
उपतिष्ठति तिष्ठन्तं गच्छन्तमनुगच्छति । करोति कुर्वत: कर्म च्छायेवानुविधीयते
upatiṣṭhati tiṣṭhantaṃ gacchantam anugacchati | karoti kurvataḥ karma chāyevānuvidhīyate ||
Disse Bhishma: O karma segue a pessoa como uma sombra. Quando ela está de pé, ele permanece junto; quando caminha, caminha atrás; quando parte, parte com ela. Tudo o que o agente faz, o próprio ato—com sua consequência moral—acompanha-o de perto e jamais o larga.
