Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)
येन येन हि यस्यार्थ: कारणेनेह कर्मणि । तत्तदालम्बते सर्व: स्वे स्वे स्वार्थपरिग्रहे,अपने-अपने अभीष्ट अर्थकी सिद्धिके लिये जिस मनुष्यको जिस-जिस साधनभूत वस्तुसे प्रयोजन होता है, वे सभी अपना-अपना काम बनानेके लिये उन-उन वस्तुओंका आश्रय लेते हैं
yena yena hi yasyārthaḥ kāraṇeneha karmaṇi | tattad ālambate sarvaḥ sve sve svārthaparigrahe ||
Janaka disse: “Neste mundo da ação, qualquer meio que uma pessoa considere necessário para realizar o fim desejado—por esse mesmo meio ela busca amparo. Pois cada um, empenhado em assegurar o seu objetivo escolhido, refugia-se no instrumento que lhe serve.”

People naturally rely on whatever instrument or method helps them achieve their intended goal; attachment to means arises from the pursuit of one’s chosen end.
