ग्रीवया तु मुनिश्रेष्ठ नरमाप्रोत्यनुत्तमम् । विश्वेदवान् मुखेनाथ दिश: श्रोत्रेण चाप्रुयात्,ग्रीवासे प्राणोंका निष्क्रमण होनेपर मनुष्य मुनियोंमें श्रेष्ठ परम उत्तम नरका सांनिध्य प्राप्त करता है। मुखसे प्राणत्याग करनेपर वह विश्वेदेवोंको और श्रोत्रसे प्राण त्यागनेपर दिशाओंकी अधिष्ठात्री देवियोंको प्राप्त होता है
grīvayā tu muniśreṣṭha naram āprotya anuttamam | viśvedevān mukhenātha diśaḥ śrotreṇa cāpruyāt ||
Yājñavalkya disse: “Ó melhor dos sábios, quando o sopro vital parte pelo pescoço, o homem alcança a presença do incomparável ‘Melhor dos Homens’. Se entrega a vida pela boca, chega aos Viśvedevas; e se parte pelo ouvido, vai às divindades que presidem as direções.”
याज्ञवल्क्य उवाच
