अव्यक्त–पुरुष–विवेकः (Discrimination of Avyakta/Prakṛti and Puruṣa) — Yājñavalkya’s Anvīkṣikī to Viśvāvasu

तदा तमनुपश्येत यस्मिन्‌ दृष्टे न कथ्यते । हृदयस्थो<न्तरात्मेति ज्ञेयो ज्ञस्तात मद्धिधै:

tadā tam anupaśyet yasmin dṛṣṭe na kathyate | hṛdayastho 'ntarātmeti jñeyo jñastāta madvidhaiḥ ||

Então deve-se contemplar Aquilo—ao vê-Lo, a fala emudece. Esse Eu interior, que habita no coração, deve ser conhecido como o Ātman imanente, o que tudo sabe. Filho querido, para pessoas como eu é apropriado buscar e alcançar o conhecimento dessa testemunha interior que conhece tudo e reside no coração de cada um—especialmente no tempo do yoga, quando o yogin percebe diretamente o Supremo no íntimo.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that the highest reality—the Inner Self dwelling in the heart—is directly knowable in yogic realization, yet it transcends verbal description. True knowledge culminates in inward vision of the all-knowing witness (antarātmā), where speech and conceptualization fall silent.

Vasiṣṭha addresses a disciple affectionately (“tāta”) and instructs him on contemplative practice: in the proper yogic time/state, one should behold the indwelling Self.
