अध्याय २९७ — श्रेयः, धृति, दान-नियमाः
Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving
आयुषि क्षयमापन्ने पठचत्वमुपगच्छति । तथा हाकारणाद् भवति कारणैरुपपादितम्
āyuṣi kṣayam āpanne paṭhatvam upagacchati | tathā hākāraṇād bhavati kāraṇair upapāditam ||
Parāśara disse: “Quando a porção de vida destinada vai se consumindo, a pessoa cai na impotência e no declínio. Do mesmo modo, nada vem a ser sem causa; tudo o que ocorre é estabelecido por suas causas apropriadas.”
पराशर उवाच
Parāśara emphasizes causality: events do not arise without causes; they are produced and validated by specific conditions. He pairs this with the observation that decline and helplessness naturally follow when one’s lifespan is nearing exhaustion.
Parāśara is instructing his listener in a reflective, philosophical mode within Śānti Parva, using the example of life’s waning to illustrate a broader principle: outcomes are causally grounded rather than random or causeless.
