सुखितो दुःखितो वापि नरो लोभ॑ परित्यजेत् । अवेक्ष्य मनसा शास्त्र बुद्धा च नृपसत्तम,नृपश्रेष्ठ! मनुष्य सुखमें हो या दुःखमें, मन और बुद्धिसे शास्त्रका तत्व समझकर लोभका परित्याग कर दे
sukhito duḥkhito vāpi naro lobhaṁ parityajet | avekṣya manasā śāstraṁ buddhā ca nṛpasattama ||
Esteja o homem na felicidade ou na tristeza, deve renunciar à cobiça. Tendo examinado o ensinamento dos śāstras com mente firme e discernimento, ó melhor dos reis, que abandone a avidez.
पराशर उवाच
Greed (lobha) should be abandoned in all conditions—whether one is experiencing pleasure or pain—by reflecting with mind and discernment on the guidance of the śāstras.
Parāśara is instructing a king (addressed as nṛpasattama/nṛpaśreṣṭha) on righteous conduct, emphasizing that stable ethical discipline requires renouncing greed regardless of changing fortunes.
