त्रिवर्गविचारः

Tri-varga Deliberation: Dharma, Artha, Kāma

गुरुपूजा च कौरव्य दया भूतेष्वपैशुनम्‌ । जनवादं मृषावादं स्तुतिनिन्दाविसर्जनम्‌

gurupūjā ca kauravya dayā bhūteṣv apaiśunam | janavādaṃ mṛṣāvādaṃ stutinindāvisarjanam ||

Disse Bhīṣma: “Ó Kauravya, aquele que submeteu a mente e os sentidos mostra naturalmente reverência aos mestres e aos anciãos, compaixão por todos os seres, e recusa-se a praticar a maledicência. Ele abandona o escândalo público e a disseminação de rumores, a fala falsa e o hábito de louvar e censurar os outros; e não recorre a faltas como desejo, ira, cobiça, orgulho, torpor, jactância, rancor, inveja ou insultar o próximo.”

Mastery over mind and senses expresses itself as ethical speech and conduct: reverence for teachers, compassion for all beings, and avoidance of slander, rumor, lying, and the destabilizing habit of praising or blaming others—along with other inner vices.
