Bhīmasena’s Counsel on Grief, Inner Conflict, and the Duty of Kingship (भीमसेन-उपदेशः)
Mental well-being is defined as sāmyam—an inner equilibrium of the three guṇas (sattva, rajas, tamas). Health is not the absence of all impulses, but a balanced, well-governed mind.
In the didactic discourse of Śānti Parva, Vaiśampāyana continues explaining principles of inner discipline and right living, here characterizing mental health through the classical framework of the three guṇas.
