Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154
The verse highlights a dharmic posture: humility and reverence toward the divine (praṇāma) naturally cultivate inner joy and moral steadiness, suggesting that devotion is not merely ritual but an ethical and emotional reorientation.
After encountering or addressing a divine presence, the group bows in respect; as a result, most of them become joyful—indicating acceptance, relief, or upliftment following the act of reverence.
