अध्याय ४ — दुर्योधनस्य असंधि-निश्चयः
Duryodhana’s Refusal of Reconciliation
युष्माभिस्तानि चीर्णानि यान्यसाधूनि साधुषु । अकारणकृतान्येव तेषां व: फलमागतम्,'पाण्डव साधुपुरुष हैं तो भी तुमलोगोंने अकारण ही उनके साथ जो बहुत-से अनुचित बर्ताव किये हैं, उन्हींका यह फल तुम्हें मिला है
yuṣmābhis tāni cīrṇāni yāny asādhūni sādhuṣu | akāraṇakṛtāny eva teṣāṃ vaḥ phalam āgatam ||
Sañjaya disse: Os atos injustos que cometestes contra os virtuosos—praticados sem causa justa—agora retornaram a vós como consequência inevitável. Pois, sendo os Pāṇḍavas homens de retidão, a vossa má conduta, sem provocação, para com eles amadureceu neste mesmo resultado que estais sofrendo.
संजय उवाच
Unprovoked harm done to the virtuous inevitably returns as suffering to the doer; ethical causality (karma-phala) operates even amid war.
Sanjaya addresses the Kaurava side, pointing out that their present calamity is the direct outcome of earlier unjust conduct toward the Pāṇḍavas, who are characterized as sādhu (righteous).
