Vasudeva–Arjuna Dialogue in the Aftermath of Dvārakā
नाहं वृष्णिप्रवीरेण बन्धुभिश्वैव मातुल । विहीनां पृथिवीं द्रष्ट शक्यामीह कथंचन,“मामाजी! वृष्णिवंशके प्रमुख वीर भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण तथा अपने भाइयोंसे हीन हुई यह पृथ्वी मुझसे अब किसी तरह देखी नहीं जा सकेगी
vaiśampāyana uvāca | nāhaṁ vṛṣṇipravīreṇa bandhūbhiś caiva mātula | vihīnāṁ pṛthivīṁ draṣṭuṁ śakyāmīha kathaṁcana ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Ó tio materno, de modo algum consigo suportar olhar para esta terra quando ela está privada do mais eminente herói dos Vṛṣṇis e dos meus próprios parentes. Um mundo esvaziado de Kṛṣṇa e da linhagem dos Yādavas tornou-se, para mim, moral e emocionalmente insuportável.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s ethic of impermanence: when the sustaining figures of one’s world—especially dharmic leaders and one’s own kin—are gone, attachment to worldly life naturally collapses, prompting dispassion and the turn toward renunciation.
After the annihilation of the Vṛṣṇis and the departure of Kṛṣṇa, the speaker expresses that he cannot continue to live while seeing the earth emptied of those central supports. It signals the emotional and moral breaking point that leads toward withdrawal from worldly rule and life.
