उत्तम मणियों, हीरों और सुवर्णसे अलंकृत कर्णके मस्तकका आभूषण मुकुट और उसके दोनों उत्तम कुण्डल भी अर्जुनके बाणोंसे छिन्न-भिन्न होकर पृथ्वीपर गिर पड़े ।। महाधनं शिल्पिवरै: प्रयत्नतः कृतं यदस्योत्तमवर्म भास्वरम् | सुदीर्घकालेन ततो<स्य पाण्डव: क्षणेन बाणैर्बहुधा व्यशातयत्,अच्छे-अच्छे शिल्पियोंने कर्णके जिस उत्तम बहुमूल्य और तेजस्वी कवचको दीर्घकालमें बनाकर तैयार किया था, उसके उसी कवचके पाण्डुपुत्र अर्जुनने अपने बाणोंद्वारा क्षणभरमें बहुत-से टुकड़े कर डाले
mahādhanaṁ śilpivaraiḥ prayatnataḥ kṛtaṁ yad asyottamavarma bhāsvaram | sudīrghakālena tato ’sya pāṇḍavaḥ kṣaṇena bāṇair bahudhā vyaśātayat ||
Sañjaya disse: A coroa na cabeça de Karṇa, ornada com excelentes gemas, diamantes e ouro, e também seus dois magníficos brincos, foram despedaçados pelas flechas de Arjuna e caíram ao chão. E aquela armadura radiante de Karṇa—riqueza imensa, forjada com esforço paciente por mestres artesãos ao longo de muito tempo—foi, num instante, estilhaçada em muitos pedaços pelo Pāṇḍava Arjuna com suas flechas.
