महीवियद्दिगम्बूनां सर्वनाशमिवाद्धुतम्‌ । कर्मणोरिव वैफल्यमुभयो: पुण्यपापयो:

mahīviyaddigambūnāṃ sarvanāśam ivādbhūtam | karmaṇor iva vaiphalyam ubhayoḥ puṇyapāpayoḥ ||

Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: «Ó rei, pareceu tão assombroso quanto a destruição total da terra, do céu, das direções e das águas — como a própria inutilidade de ambos os atos, mérito e pecado.» Do mesmo modo, a notícia da morte de Karṇa em batalha soava quase impossível, como se a ordem moral tivesse sido subvertida.
