एक एव रणे भीष्म एकवीरत्वमागत: । “किंतु समरांगणमें भीष्मजी अकेले ही पाण्डवों और सूंजयोंको खदेड़कर युद्धमें अद्वितीय वीरके रूपमें विख्यात हुए
eka eva raṇe bhīṣma ekavīratvam āgataḥ |
Sañjaya disse: Naquela batalha, Bhīṣma, sozinho, alcançou a condição de campeão solitário—rechaçando os Pāṇḍavas e os Sṛñjayas e tornando-se célebre como um herói sem igual no campo. O verso ressalta como uma proeza marcial extraordinária pode, na guerra, por um instante eclipsar números e alianças, ao mesmo tempo em que sugere a grandeza trágica de guerreiros vinculados ao dharma, presos à destruição mútua.
