The Karṇa–Arjuna Confrontation
Cosmic Spectatorship and Vows
The verse highlights how anger (saṃrambha) can intensify destructive capacity in war: a warrior’s prowess, when driven by wrath, becomes ‘death-like’ (antaka-pratima) and yields harsh, dreadful actions—raising ethical tension between valor and the moral cost of violence.
Sañjaya reports to Kṛṣṇa, urging him to observe Karṇa (called ‘sūtaputra’) on the battlefield. Karṇa is depicted as furious and overwhelmingly powerful, carrying out fearsome martial acts in the great engagement.
