कर्णस्य दानप्रतिज्ञा–शल्योपदेश–वाक्ययुद्धम्

जीवतश्न तथैवान्य: शस्त्र काये न्यमज्जयत् । राजन! दूसरा सैनिक किसी गिरते हुए योद्धाका सिर अपनी तलवारसे काट लेता था और कोई जीवित शत्रुके ही शरीरमें अपना शस्त्र घुसेड़ देता था
jīvataś ca tathaivānyaḥ śastraṃ kāye nyamajjayat |
Disse Sañjaya: “E do mesmo modo, ó rei, outro guerreiro cravou sua arma profundamente no corpo de um inimigo que ainda estava vivo.” A cena ressalta a ferocidade incessante da batalha, em que as restrições comuns da compaixão são eclipsadas pelas exigências imediatas do combate e da sobrevivência.
