Chapter 99: Sātyaki and Duḥśāsana’s engagement

जलसंध॑ महाबाहुं भीमसेनो< भ्यवर्तत । युधिष्ठिर: सहानीक: कृतवर्माणमाहवे,भीमसेनने महाबाहु जलसंधपर आक्रमण किया और सेनासहित युधिष्ठिरने युद्धस्थलमें कृतवर्मापर धावा बोल दिया

sañjaya uvāca | jalasaṃdhaṃ mahābāhuṃ bhīmaseno 'bhyavartata | yudhiṣṭhiraḥ sahānīkaḥ kṛtavarmāṇam āhave 'bhyadhāvat ||

Sañjaya disse: Bhīmasena, de braços poderosos, avançou para atacar Jalasaṃdha; e Yudhiṣṭhira, acompanhado por suas tropas, investiu contra Kṛtavarmā no campo de batalha. O verso ressalta o impulso sombrio da guerra, em que os líderes carregam a responsabilidade de dirigir a violência a oponentes específicos, permanecendo, porém, vinculados ao dharma e ao lado que escolheram.
