tatrādbhutam apaśyāma hārdikyasya parākramam | yad enaṃ sahitāḥ pārthā nāticakramur āhave ||

संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that in war, outcomes are shaped not only by numbers or collective strength but by individual excellence, training, and steadfastness. It also reflects the Mahābhārata’s recurring realism: moral alignment does not automatically translate into tactical superiority on the battlefield.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Kṛtavarman (Hārdikya) displayed extraordinary valor. Even when the Pāṇḍavas acted together, they were unable to break past him in combat, indicating his effectiveness in holding a position or resisting their combined assault.
