Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined vigilance and responsibility in one’s assigned role: both sides, led by their commanders, protect their formations thoroughly. In the dharmic frame of a regulated battle, preparedness and orderly conduct are presented as essential duties.

Sanjaya reports to King Dhritarashtra that Bhishma has set up the Makara formation and is guarding it from all directions; simultaneously, the Pandavas are likewise securing their own battle array, indicating both armies are fully organized and ready.
