तलत्राभिह्वताश्षैव ज्याशब्दा भरतर्षभ | पत्तीनां पादशब्दक्ष वाजिनां च महास्वन:
sañjaya uvāca | talatrābhihataś caiva jyāśabdā bharatarṣabha | pattīnām pādaśabdāś ca vājināṃ ca mahāsvanāḥ ||
Disse Sañjaya: Ó touro entre os Bhāratas, o choque das guardas da palma e o estalo das cordas dos arcos, o passo pesado dos soldados de infantaria e o relinchar alto dos cavalos ergueram-se juntos num único bramido terrível—um estrondo de presságio, anunciando que os exércitos haviam irrompido por inteiro na batalha.
