भीष्मसेनासंनिवेशः — Bhīṣma’s Mobilization, Omens, and the Kaurava Array

स्यन्दनैर्वरवर्माणो भीष्मस्यासन्‌ पुरोगमा: । श्रुतायुध, चित्रसेन, पुरुमित्र, विविंशति, शल्य, भूरिश्रवा तथा महारथी विकर्ण--ये सात महाधनुर्धर वीर रथोंपर आरूढ़ हो सुन्दर कवच धारण किये द्रोणपुत्र अश्वत्थामाको अपने आगे रखकर भीष्मके आगे-आगे चल रहे थे

sañjaya uvāca | syandanair varavarmāṇo bhīṣmasyāsan purogamāḥ | śrutāyudhaś citrasenaḥ purumitraḥ viviṁśatiḥ śalyaḥ bhūriśravā tathā mahārathī vikarṇaḥ—ete sapta mahādhanurdharā vīrā rathoparī ārūḍhāḥ sundara-kavaca-dhāriṇaḥ droṇaputram aśvatthāmānam ātmanaḥ purataḥ kṛtvā bhīṣmasya purastāt purastāc ceruḥ ||

Sañjaya disse: À frente de Bhīṣma avançava uma vanguarda de guerreiros em carros, trajando esplêndidas armaduras. Śrutāyudha, Citraseṇa, Purumitra, Vivimśati, Śalya, Bhūriśravas e o grande guerreiro de carro Vikarna—estes sete poderosos arqueiros, montados em seus carros e vestindo finas couraças, seguiam adiante de Bhīṣma, colocando à sua frente Aśvatthāman, o filho de Droṇa, enquanto avançavam. A cena ressalta a ordenação deliberada do comando e da proteção na guerra: honra-se a autoridade do ancião, e posicionam-se combatentes formidáveis para resguardar e projetar poder.
