The verse foregrounds the ethical discipline of truthful transmission: Sañjaya frames his report as faithful narration grounded in the authority and grace of Vyāsa. It emphasizes that extraordinary knowledge and perception should be used in service of accurate witnessing and responsible speech, especially when recounting a catastrophic war.
Sañjaya addresses the king and announces that he will describe, in full detail, the astonishing and hair-raising Bharata war. He signals the beginning of his account by invoking Vyāsa (son of Parāśara), whose blessing enables Sañjaya’s divine sight and other supernormal capacities needed to report events occurring far away.
