त्रिदशा5पि समुद्युक्ता नाल॑ भीष्म॑ं समासितुम् | किमु पार्था महात्मानं मर्त्यभूता महाबला:
tridaśā api samudyuktā nālaṁ bhīṣmaṁ samāsitum | kimu pārthā mahātmānaṁ martyabhūtā mahābalāḥ ||
Disse Sañjaya: Mesmo que os próprios deuses se reunissem e se empenhassem juntos, não seriam capazes de enfrentar Bhīṣma em batalha. Quanto menos, então, poderão os poderosos filhos de Pṛthā—meros mortais sujeitos à morte—sustentar-se diante daquele Bhīṣma de grande alma? A observação ressalta o peso moral da estatura de Bhīṣma e o desequilíbrio assustador que a guerra pode criar quando virtude, experiência e destino convergem num único guerreiro.
