शकुनेः पुत्रेण सह आश्वमेधाश्वविषयः संघर्षः — Arjuna’s restrained engagement with Śakuni’s son during the horse-escort

ब्राह्मणों और वैश्योंके लिये वहाँ परम स्वादिष्ट अन्नका भण्डार भरा हुआ था। प्रतिदिन एक लाख ब्राह्मणोंके भोजन कर लेनेपर वहाँ मेघ-गर्जनाके समान शब्द करनेवाला डंका बार-बार पीटा जाता था। इस प्रकारके डंके वहाँ दिनमें कई बार पीटे जाते थे ।।

evaṁ sa vavṛte yajño dharmarājasya dhīmataḥ | annasya subahūn rājan utsargān parvatopamān, rājan adṛśyataikstho rājñas tasya mahāmakhe |

Ali, para os Brāhmaṇas e os Vaiśyas, havia depósitos repletos do alimento mais saboroso. A cada dia, depois que cem mil brâmanes terminavam de comer, o tambor que soava como o trovão das nuvens era batido repetidas vezes; e, num só dia, tais toques ecoavam muitas vezes. Assim, o grande sacrifício do sábio Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira prosseguia dia após dia do mesmo modo. Ó rei, viam-se vastas distribuições de comida—montes como montanhas—dispostas em abundância. Naquele grandioso rito régio, reuniam-se pessoas de muitas terras, de tal forma que, por assim dizer, toda Jambūdvīpa parecia congregada num único lugar.
