अन्यथा प्रतिपन्नास्तु विवृद्धा ये च कर्मण: । स्वकर्मनिरतानां च ब्राह्मणानां शुभैषिणाम्‌

anyathā pratipannās tu vivṛddhā ye ca karmaṇaḥ | svakarmaniratānāṃ ca brāhmaṇānāṃ śubhaiṣiṇām ||

Vāyu disse: “Aqueles seres que tomaram um rumo contrário—enredando-se profundamente nas ações—quando se esgota a fruição de seus atos pecaminosos e começa a surgir o mérito realizado anteriormente, então, pela força das impressões deixadas por atos auspiciosos (saṃskāras), alcançam a condição dos brâmanes, devotados aos seus deveres prescritos e buscadores do bem. Isto é, nascem em tais famílias; ali tornam a esforçar-se, elevam-se e vão ao céu dos deuses—assim o declara a revelação védica.”

Even those who have fallen into contrary or harmful courses are not fixed forever: when the results of sin are exhausted and prior merit ripens, the latent impressions of good deeds can lead them toward dharmic birth, renewed effort, and ascent to higher worlds.
