धृतराष्ट्रस्य स्पर्शाभिलाषः — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Request for Touch and Permission for Tapas

कौरव्य पर्युपासीथा: स्थित्वा द्वैविध्यमात्मन: । तुष्टपुष्टबल: शत्रुरात्मवानिति च स्मरेत्‌

Transliteration

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | kauravya paryupāsīthāḥ sthitvā dvaividhyam ātmanaḥ | tuṣṭa-puṣṭa-balaḥ śatrur ātmavān iti ca smaret kurunandana ||

Translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra disse: “Ó descendente dos Kurus, depois de te firmares e ponderares bem a condição dupla de tua própria força e fraqueza, decide se é correto lutar contra o inimigo ou buscar acomodação. Lembra-te, alegria dos Kurus: se o adversário é resoluto e suas tropas estão bem alimentadas, fortes e satisfeitas, não te precipites num ataque súbito; concebe antes algum outro meio de abatê-lo.”
