Adhyāya 9: Pratiśruta-Dāna
The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
यच्च तस्य हुतं किंचिद् दत्तं वा भरतर्षभ । तपस्तप्तमथो वापि सर्व तस्योपहन्यते
yac ca tasya hutaṁ kiñcid dattaṁ vā bharatarṣabha | tapas taptam atho vāpi sarvaṁ tasyopahanyate ||
Bhishma disse: Ó touro entre os Bharatas, tudo o que ele ofereceu em sacrifício, tudo o que deu em caridade e toda austeridade que praticou—tudo se arruína. O pecado de quebrar um voto solene destrói o mérito acumulado entre o nascimento e a morte, anulando os atos de culto, de doação e de autodisciplina de toda uma vida.
