The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद् यत् सुकृतं तस्य भारत
bhīṣma uvāca |
yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |
etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |
Bhishma disse: “Ó descendente de Bharata, a noite em que um ser nasce e a noite em que morre—entre essas duas noites, quaisquer méritos que ele pratique na vida são desfeitos. Tudo o que realizou por meio de sacrifício, caridade e austeridade é destruído pelo pecado de quebrar um voto solene.”
