Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
एवं सुवर्णमुत्पन्नममपत्यं जातवेदस: । तत्र जाम्बूनदं श्रेष्ठ देवानामपि भूषणम्
evaṁ suvarṇam utpannam amapatyaṁ jātavedasaḥ | tatra jāmbūnadaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ devānām api bhūṣaṇam ||
Disse Bhīṣma: “Assim o ouro veio a existir como descendência de Agni, o conhecedor de todos os nascimentos. Entre as variedades de ouro, o chamado Jāmbūnada é o mais excelente e serve de ornamento até mesmo para os deuses.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse frames material excellence (the finest gold, Jāmbūnada) within a sacred genealogy—gold is presented as arising from Agni—suggesting that purity, value, and rightful use of precious substances are grounded in a cosmic and dharmic order.
Bhīṣma continues an explanatory discourse describing the origin of gold from Agni (Jātavedas) and then distinguishes Jāmbūnada as the श्रेष्ठ (best) variety, fit to adorn even the gods.
