Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
निश्चित्य मनसा सर्व गुणदोषबलाबलम् | दग्धुकाम: कुलं सर्व कुशिकानां तपोधन:
niścitya manasā sarva-guṇa-doṣa-balābalam | dagdhukāmaḥ kulaṃ sarvaṃ kuśikānāṃ tapodhanaḥ |
Disse Bhishma: Tendo firmado a decisão em sua mente—após ponderar todos os méritos e faltas, forças e fraquezas—o asceta Cyavana, decidido a queimar por completo a linhagem dos Kushika, tomou sua resolução. Pois soubera de antemão que, por uma aliança matrimonial com uma donzela da casa kushika, surgiria em sua própria família uma grave mancha contra a condição de kshatriya. Assim, depois de deliberar interiormente sobre o equilíbrio do dharma naquela questão, o sábio aproximou-se do rei Kushika, movido pelo desejo de reduzir todo o clã a cinzas.
