अहिंसयित्वा ब्रह्महत्याविधानम् / Brahmahatyā incurred without physical violence
ये त्वेवंगुणजातीयास्तेभ्यो दत्त महाफलम् | सहस्रगुणमाप्रोति गुणाहाय प्रदायक:
ye tv evaṁguṇajātīyās tebhyo dattaṁ mahāphalam | sahasraguṇam āpnoti guṇāhāya pradāyakaḥ ||
Bhishma disse: As dádivas dadas a recipientes que verdadeiramente possuem tais qualidades rendem grande fruto. De fato, o doador alcança um retorno mil vezes maior, pois o ato de dar é engrandecido pelas virtudes do receptor e pela escolha discernente de quem oferece.
भीष्म उवाच
Charity becomes especially fruitful when directed to recipients of genuine virtue; the donor’s merit multiplies greatly when giving is guided by discernment and respect for moral excellence.
Bhishma continues his instruction on dharma, explaining the ethics of dāna: the spiritual result of a gift depends not only on the act of giving but also on the worthiness and qualities of the recipient.
