Chapter 2: Sudarśana Upākhyāna — Atithi-Dharma and the Conquest of Mṛtyu
Gṛhastha-Vrata
तस्येन्द्रसमवीर्यस्य संग्रामेष्वनिवर्तिन:
tasyendrasamavīryasya saṅgrāmeṣv anivartinaḥ
Bhīṣma disse: “Dele—cuja valentia era igual à de Indra—que, nas batalhas, jamais recuava.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse praises the kṣatriya ideal of unwavering courage: true martial virtue is steadfastness in righteous battle, marked by refusal to retreat and by strength likened to Indra’s.
Bhīṣma is describing a particular warrior (not named in this half-verse) by highlighting two defining traits—Indra-like prowess and unflinching resolve in combat—setting up a larger characterization in the surrounding passage.
