अर्चेद् देवानदम्भेन सेवेतामायया गुरून् । निर्धि निदध्यात् पारत्र्यं यात्रार्थ दानशब्दितम्
arced devān adambhena sevetāmāyayā gurūn | nidhim nidadhyāt pāratr̥yaṁ yātrārthaṁ dānaśabditam ||
Disse Bhishma: “Que o homem adore os deuses sem hipocrisia; que sirva aos mais velhos e aos mestres sem engano. E, para a jornada ao outro mundo, que acumule um ‘tesouro’ chamado caridade—isto é, que dê generosamente, buscando o bem que se segue após a morte.”
