सुरेश: शरणं शर्म विश्वरेता: प्रजाभव: । अह: संवत्सरो व्याल: प्रत्यय: सर्वदर्शन:
sureśaḥ śaraṇaṃ śarma viśvaretāḥ prajābhavaḥ | ahaḥ saṃvatsaro vyālaḥ pratyayaḥ sarvadarśanaḥ ||
Disse Bhīṣma: Ele é o Senhor dos deuses; o refúgio supremo dos aflitos; a bem-aventurança em si; a semente e a causa do universo; a fonte de onde surgem todas as criaturas. Ele é a luz do dia, o ano que mede o tempo; a serpente cósmica (Śeṣa) que sustenta os mundos; a verdade realizada pelo entendimento purificado; e a testemunha que tudo vê em cada um. Assim, o ensinamento conduz o ouvinte a buscar abrigo no Divino como fundamento da ordem, do tempo e do discernimento moral.
