Dvaipāyana–Kīṭa Saṃvāda: Karmic Memory, Fear of Death, and Embodied Pleasure

(भस्म विष्ठा कृमिर्वापि निष्ठा यस्येदृशी ध्रुवा । स काय: परपीडाभि: कथं धार्यों विपश्चिता ।।

bhasma viṣṭhā kṛmir vāpi niṣṭhā yasyedṛśī dhruvā | sa kāyaḥ parapīḍābhiḥ kathaṃ dhāryo vipaścitā ||

Bhishma disse: “Para este corpo, um destes desfechos é certo e inevitável: ele se tornará cinzas, ou se converterá em excremento depois de ser devorado por alguma criatura, ou será lançado fora e ficará infestado de vermes. Sabendo disso, como pode um sábio sustentar e manter tal corpo infligindo dor a outros (por causa de sua carne)? Até mesmo louvar o comer carne enreda alguém na ação pecaminosa e em suas consequências.”
