Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

Educational Q&A

True excellence (tejas) joined with auspicious fortune (lakṣmī) and a noble bearing manifests as visible radiance; inner virtue and divine favor are portrayed as outward brilliance that naturally attracts and uplifts others.

Bhishma is describing a person of exceptional merit—depicting him as shining with power, beauty, and prosperity, comparable to the sun’s ray-filled brilliance—within his broader instruction on ideals of conduct and qualities worthy of honor.
