Então Indra dirigiu-se a Puruṣottama e disse: “Senhor, para a purificação da terra—para remover o fardo opressivo que a pesa—desce, por favor, por uma porção de Ti mesmo.” Hari (Viṣṇu), aceitando o pedido, respondeu: “Assim seja.”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
When disorder and oppression weigh upon the world, restoration of dharma may require divinely guided action; the divine responds to a legitimate plea aimed at protecting the earth and re-establishing balance.
Indra approaches Puruṣottama (Hari/Viṣṇu) and requests that he descend in a partial incarnation to cleanse the earth of its burden; Hari consents with “tathā (tathāstu),” accepting the mission.
