Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)
तेषां काम भगवानुग्रधन्वा प्रादादिष्टं संनिसर्गाद् यथोक्तम् | तां चाप्येषां योषितं लोककान्तां श्रियं भार्या व्यदधान्मानुषेषु,उग्र धनुष धारण करनेवाले भगवान् रुद्रने उन सबको उनकी अभीष्ट कामना पूर्ण होनेका वरदान दिया, जिसे वे अपने साधुस्वभावके कारण भगवानके सामने प्रकट कर चुके थे। साथ ही उस लोककमनीया युवती स्त्रीको, जो स्वर्गलोककी लक्ष्मी थी, मनुष्यलोकमें उनकी पत्नी निश्चित की
Teṣāṁ kāma bhagavān ugradhanvā prādād iṣṭaṁ saṁnisargād yathoktam | Tāṁ cāpy eṣāṁ yoṣitaṁ lokakāntāṁ śriyaṁ bhāryā vyadadhān mānuṣeṣu ||
Vyāsa disse: O Senhor, Rudra, o terrível portador do arco, concedeu-lhes a realização de seus desejos, exatamente como os haviam exposto em sua súplica sincera e sem artifícios. E também ordenou que a donzela que encanta o mundo—Śrī em pessoa, o esplendor do céu—se tornasse sua esposa entre os seres humanos, ligando a graça divina a um destino de lar humano.
व्यास उवाच
The verse emphasizes that divine gifts respond to sincere, openly stated intentions, and that prosperity (Śrī) is not merely wealth but a divinely ordered presence that must be situated within rightful human relationships and social dharma (here, marriage).
Vyāsa narrates that Rudra, called Ugradhanvā, grants the group their requested boons exactly as they had declared, and additionally decrees that the heavenly, world-charming maiden identified with Śrī will become their wife in the human realm.
