द्रौपदी-वरण-प्रत्ययः — Intelligence Reports and the Kaurava Court’s Response
ततः स राजा द्रुपद: प्रहृष्ट: पुरोहितं प्रेषयामास तेषाम् । विद्याम युष्मानिति भाषमाणो महात्मान: पाण्डुसुतास्तु कच्चित्,जनमेजय! इस समाचारसे राजा द्रुपदको बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई, उन्होंने उसी समय उनके पास अपने पुरोहितको भेजते हुए कहा--“आप उन लोगोंसे कहियेगा कि मैं आपलोगोंका परिचय जानना चाहता हूँ। क्या आपलोग महात्मा पाण्डुके पुत्र हैं?
tataḥ sa rājā drupadaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ purohitaṁ preṣayāmāsa teṣām | vidyāṁ yuṣmān iti bhāṣamāṇo mahātmānaḥ pāṇḍusutās tu kaccit, janamejaya ||
Então o rei Drupada, tomado de alegria, enviou a eles o seu sacerdote da família. Dizendo: “Desejo saber quem sois”, perguntou: “Ó Janamejaya, sois porventura os nobres filhos de Pāṇḍu?”
धृष्टह्ुम्न उवाच
The verse highlights prudent royal conduct: even in joy, a king seeks clarity through proper channels (sending a trusted priest) and verifies identity before proceeding—an ethical blend of enthusiasm with discernment.
Drupada becomes very pleased upon hearing news and immediately dispatches his priest as an envoy to the visitors, asking to learn who they are and whether they are the noble sons of Pāṇḍu.
