Intelligence Reports and the Kaurava Court’s Response
niḥsaṁśayaṁ kṣatriya-puṅgavās te yathā hi yuddhaṁ kathayanti rājan | āśā hi no vyaktam iyaṁ samṛddhā muktān hi pārthāc chrūṇumo ’gnidāhāt ||
The verse highlights recognition of kṣatriya character through speech and attitude toward battle, and it frames political-ethical alliance-making as grounded in dharma and rightful kinship rather than mere opportunism—hope becomes ‘fulfilled’ when the righteous are preserved from adharma (the lac-house plot).
Dhṛṣṭadyumna addresses a king, stating that the men being discussed must be eminent kṣatriyas based on their account of warfare. He reports the news that Kuntī’s sons, the Pāṇḍavas, have escaped the burning of the lac-house, and he interprets this as a sign that their wish to establish relations/alliance with the Pāṇḍavas will succeed.
