आस्तीककथाप्रारम्भः — Beginning of the Āstīka Narrative

सनाम्नीं चोद्यतां भार्या गृह्लीयामिति तस्य हि । मनो निविष्टमभवज्जरत्कारोर्महात्मन:,उन महात्मा जरत्कारुका मन इस बातपर स्थिर हो गया था कि मेरे-जैसे नामवाली कन्या यदि उपलब्ध हो तो उसीको पत्नीरूपमें ग्रहण करूँ:
sanāmnīṁ codyatāṁ bhāryā gṛhlīyām iti tasya hi | mano niviṣṭam abhavaj jaratkāror mahātmanaḥ ||
Śaunaka disse: A mente do magnânimo Jaratkāru firmou-se nesta resolução: “Se me for oferecida uma donzela que traga o mesmo nome que o meu, eu a aceitarei como esposa.” A frase ressalta uma contenção deliberada, quase votiva: o matrimônio não é buscado por prazer ou prestígio, mas assumido como dever apenas sob uma condição ética específica e vinculante.
