Adi Parva 135: The Miner’s Warning and Construction of the Escape Passage
रड्गस्यैवं मतिरभूत् क्षणेन वसुधाधिप । द्वारं चाभिमुखा: सर्वे बभूवु: प्रेक्षकास्तदा,राजन्! उस रंगमण्डपमें बैठे हुए लोगोंके मनमें क्षणभरमें उपर्युक्त विचार आने लगे। उस समय सभी दर्शक दरवाजेकी ओर मुँह घुमाकर देखने लगे
raṅgasyaivaṃ matir abhūt kṣaṇena vasudhādhipa | dvāraṃ cābhimukhāḥ sarve babhūvuḥ prekṣakās tadā rājān ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: “Ó senhor da terra, naquela arena, num só instante, as mentes dos que ali estavam sentados voltaram-se para o pensamento há pouco descrito. Então, ó Rei, todos os espectadores se voltaram para a porta, atentos ao que estava prestes a aparecer.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how collective attention shifts instantly when a significant event is expected—an ethical-literary reminder that the mind is quick to move toward what it anticipates, and that public judgment and emotion can turn in a moment.
In the arena, the assembled spectators suddenly form the same expectation and immediately turn to look toward the entrance, indicating that someone or something important is about to arrive or be revealed.
