As a colophon-like closing, the verse emphasizes the Mahābhārata’s method of grounding later moral crises in earlier origins: pivotal family alliances and choices (here, the attainment of Satyavatī) become the seed of future duties, conflicts, and the testing of dharma across generations.
The narrator signals the completion of the hundredth chapter in the Sambhava Parva of the Ādi Parva, specifying that this chapter’s subject was the episode about Satyavatī’s attainment (i.e., the account leading to her being gained as a wife/queen), and formally closes that unit of narration.
