Suta Goswami (narrating the Linga Purana narrative to the sages; internal scene describing Hari)
It highlights tapas as the inner prerequisite for sacred attainment—purifying intention and making the devotee fit for Shiva-oriented realization, which underlies sincere Linga worship beyond mere external ritual.
By showing even Hari taking refuge in tapas, the verse implies the supremacy of spiritual discipline that ultimately culminates in orientation to Pati (the Supreme Lord, Shiva-tattva), who grants release from pasha to the pashu.
Tapas (austerity)—a core limb of Shaiva sadhana aligned with Pashupata-style discipline, where concentrated restraint and devotion burn impurities and prepare one for higher worship and grace.
